  1. Antebellum- occurring or existing before a particular war, especially the American Civil War;
 It was an antebellum time where children played together, neighbors were friendly, and everyone was happy.
  1. Audit- an official inspection of an individual's or organization's accounts, typically by an independent body; conduct an official financial examination of (an individual's or organization's accounts);
My dad’s job is to audit different companies’ taxes to see if they are turning in the correct amount of tax to the state.

  1. Auditory- of or relating to the sense of hearing;
At school, each student is required to take an auditory test in order to see if they have hearing issues.

  1. Avian- of or relating to birds;
Feathers and the ability to lay eggs are avian characteristics.

  1. Aviary- a large cage, building, or enclosure for keeping birds in;
My cousin built a large aviary for his pet parakeet to live in.

  1. Avionics- electronics as applied to aviation;
Compared to the aircraft from a hundred years ago, the avionics today are unbelievably advanced.

  1. Bellicose- demonstrating aggression and willingness to fight;
Because my cousin is such a bellicose little boy, he is constantly coming home with bruises and cuts from getting into fights.

  1. Belligerency- aggressive or warlike behavior;
Belligerency would pertain to North Korean leaders because they are extremely violent and unjust to their citizens.

  1. Benefactor- a person who gives money or other help to a person or cause;
My grandma is a benefactor to the animal shelter as she donates money to them everyone month.

  1. Beneficiary- a person who derives advantage from something, especially a trust, will, or life insurance policy;
When my aunt passed away, my cousins were the beneficiaries of her entire estate.

  1. Benign- gentle, kindly;
Kindergarten teachers must be benign as well as patient with their students.

  1. Inaudible- unable to be heard;
My sister tried to whisper to me during the movie, but it was inaudible and therefore I did not understand her.
